A 2009 graduate of Libertyville High School, Troy was selected 2009 Chicago Tribune All-State Special Mention, 2008-2009 Daily Herald All-Area, 2008-2009 North Suburban All-Conference. Voted 2009 Team Captain and Most Valuable Player, he holds the Libertyville High School record for most strikeouts per season with 91. Troy was a four year Division 1 starter at Eastern Illinois University from 2010-2014. There, he posted a 3.78 career ERA, while leading the Panthers to two Ohio Valley Conference playoffs. In 2012, Troy led the Ohio Valley Conference with 9 wins, tying him for 33rd in the nation, and was selected to the 2014 Ohio Valley All-Conference team. Troy pitched two seasons of Summer League baseball in The Valley Baseball League (Virginia), where he led the Covington Lumberjacks to the 2011 Valley League Championship. In 2015, Troy played professional baseball for the Gateway Grizzles minor league team in the Frontier League.

Troy is the pitching coach at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL.
